April 23 2009 –  FREE STATE, South Africa. As has only now come to light in far greater detail, about 300 Boer protestors staged a gruesome re-enactment at the Odendaalsrust magistrate’s court  showing exactly how two local farm women, Alice Lotter, 77, and her daughter  Helen, 57, were tortured to death at their farm in Allenridge near Welkom in the Free State in March 2009.

It is important to know exactly how these Afrikaner women were tortured to death to understand the deep anger which was being felt by these Afrikaner/|Boer protestors who had shown up with effigies  –which they used to re-enact the women’s gruesome murders outside the Odendaalsrust law court. What has made this entire matter even more loathsome, is that while the Afrikaners were protesting against the way these women had been tortured to death, they also were being taunted and insulted by the local ANC-mayor and her counter-demonstration with local ANC-comrades.

About 300  Boer Republicans , left,  headed by leaders Edwin Leeman and Eugene Terre’Blanche — protested outside the court during the bail applications on April 19 of Thapelo Hlongwane (21) and Joseph Khumalo (19), two suspects who were arrested for these allegedly gruesome acts. Their bail applications were postponed to May 18. They were not asked to plead to any charges. The charges were however contained in detail in the court records.

Stabbed in their vaginas, breasts cut off live…

According to the police’s forensic evidence, the Lotter mother and daughter had died excruciatingly painful deaths: they were tortured by their murderers’ allegedly stabbing broken glass bottles into their vaginas. One of the women also had her breasts cut off while she was alive – and their blood was then used to paint anti-Afrikaner hate slogans on the walls of their homestead.

• White Afrikaner police officers who investigated this slaughter and had to gather forensic evidence, were severely traumatised and required trauma counselling. And, despite the fact that the Lotter home was only one block away from the police station, no-one responded to the screams from these women while they were being slowly tortured to death.

The reason that it had been so difficult for me to obtain this information until today, was that the South African mass media has practically ignored this horrendous slaughter. The English-language news media reported it in a two-paragraph story, omitting all the torture details. The Afrikaans press also hugely diminished the shocking extent of the crimes. They reported that two farm women had been murdered, but did not breathe a single word of the mind-numbing brutality and shocking manner in which Alice & Helen Lotter were tortured to death.

The mayor  drummed up a huge police contingent and some local ANC-members and all the protestors showed up outside the court at the same time. Although no formal charges have been formulated thus far, their posters read “Suspect are danger to the People’, and “No bail, rot in Hell”.

A clash between these two opposing political groups seemed inevitable.

Intense anger among Afrikaners about torture of Lotter women:

A major conflict situation seemed to escalate when ANC protestors started singing freedom songs, chanting political slogans and taunted the Afrikaners. On their part, the Afrikaners loudly sang Die Stem national anthem, which effectively drowned out the ululating chants from the ANC.

To quote the media, some “upsetting scenes were next witnessed”.  For at this point, Mr Edwin Leemans started stabbinglife-sized human effigies they had brought with them violently with knives and broken bottles, while other white supporters splattered the effigies and bystanders with fake blood. Next, these effigies were hoisted up on ropes and set on fire to the roaring approval of the white crowd. The peaceful Boer protestors were met by wall of police — and another surprise: waiting for them at the court room in front of this cordon of police officers blocking access to the law courts, also was the town’s ANC-mayor Mrs Mathaba Leeto.  She had organised her own ‘anti-crime’ protest with a few local ANC-supporters, but against an entirely different case, one involving two white farmers and two black workers, arrested for the claimed murder of a local man Daniel Mothhanke (see details below).

Mayor was ‘belligerent’:

A direct clash between these two diametrically-opposed protesting groups seemed inevitable. Mayor Leeto was described as being ‘belligerent’ by the protestors. She reportedly told the Boer-Afrikaner protestors that their protest was ‘illegal’ whereas ‘the ANC-protestors had obtained official permission’. She also ordered the police to “do their duty’ and take care of these protestors, but then tried to say in a speech, reportedly drowned out by the Boers’ loud singing of the national anthem, that the Boer protestors should ‘cross the colour line and join the ANC-protest instead’. This intimidation tactic was greeted with disdain by the Boer protestors, and they instead moved away, staging their re-enactment demonstration of the Lotter women’s tortuous deaths opposite the courtroom. 20/04/2009  Verashni Pillay reports from Pretoria – The Independent Electoral Commission is investigating how thousands of ballot papers landed up found strewn across a road in Mpumalanga three days before the election on April 22, it said on Monday.

Jakkie Viljoen, (see picture left published in Beeld newspaper) came across these these ballot papers outside White River. He informed the DA, who in turn reported the incident to the IEC, Democratic Alliance spokesman Paul Boughey told News24. “It was on the R40 outside Nelspruit,” he said.

IEC chief electoral officer Pansy Tlakula told journalists at a press briefing that an investigation was underway to discover how the papers were waylaid.

“Not really a crisis for us…’

“We have an established protocol for transporting ballot papers so we don’t know how this happened,” she said.

Sapa quoted IEC chairwoman Brigalia Bam as saying though that the incident was “not really a crisis for us … because of the security measures that we have”. Boughey said: “It could have just fallen off a truck but it’s still very worrying that there are suddenly thousands of ballot papers lying around like that.”

Meanwhile, the IEC said it was ready for elections on Wednesday.

South Africans could expect to find out the results of elections anytime between 25 and 29 April. The commission is ‘compelled to allow political parties two days after elections to lodge objections and results could not be released in this time.’ Bam said bad weather in the Eastern Cape was a challenge, as several tents that had been set up as temporary voting stations were blown over. About 100 Boer protestors staged a gruesome re-enactment at the Odendaalsrust magistrate’s court  showing how two local farm women, Alice Lotter, 77, and her daughter  Helen, 57, were tortured to death at their farm in Allenridge near Welkom in the Free State in March 2009.  They protested outside the court during the bail applications of Thapelo Hlongwane (21) and Joseph Khumalo (19), two suspects arrested for these gruesome acts. However the local ANC-mayor had also mounted a counter-protest against another local murder in which Daniel Mothhanke was found dead near a farm and two white farmers had been arrested with two co-workers. She’d  drummed up a huge police contingent and some local ANC-members.  A clash between these two opposing political groups seemed inevitable. Instead, an extraordinary event ensued: they merely tried to drown out each other’s speeches with very, very loud singing. The Boers sang the anthem, the ANC-contingent sang ANC-freedom songs… And after the bail applicatoins were postponed in both cases, all the protestors went home again.

The mayor and her group were there to protest against the bail application in an entirely different case in which two white farmers and two black workers were arrested for allegedly murdering Daniel Mothhanke, a local man who had been killed, claimed these ANC demonstrators, for ‘stealing maize’ and who was then ‘dumped next to the road’. The four arrested men, farmers Barend Jacobus Nel (29), worker Lazarus Leboko (29), worker Andries Moholo (37) and farmer Gideon Johannes van Zyl (29). also were ordered to remain in police custody until their bail application could be heard on 25 May. These postponements were ordered because the public prosecutor had booked off sick.

This is not unusual: South African law courts have nearly ground to a halt because of the huge number of court officials, clerks, public prosecutors, magistrates and judges who book off sick, and a growing number of arrested suspects are forced to spend months in jail cells before they have even been charged with anything, just waiting for their bail applications to be heard.

Intense anger among Afrikaners about torture of Lotter women:

The intense anger of the Afrikaner-Boer community was shown in the rather gruesome murder re-enactment outside the Odendaalsrust court building ,  in which they used stuffed dolls and spurting fake blood to re-enact the way these women had been killed (see pictures posted below this article). According to forensic evidence, the mother and daughter had died excruciatingly painful deaths: they were tortured by their murderers’ allegedly stabbing broken glass bottles into their vaginas. The women had also been found with numerous stab wounds and had also been partially torched, according to a police statement.  The motive remains vague: nothing of real value seemed to have been stolen.

Edwin Leemans, who heads the  Boerevolk Freedom Foundation, said members of Eugene Terre’ Blanche’s Christian-Boer-Nation group also showed up in support from about 8am.

A physical confrontation was avoided when Eugene Terre’Blanche moved his group away from the ANC-demonstrators. Previously unreported: 20001201 VAN HEERDEN WILLEM M. LOW’S CREEK, MPUMALANGA

Convicted murderers Dean van Coller, Moses Mboshane, Lucky Nkosi were released by authorities by mistake after their conviction – their arrest warrant was only issued on April 18 2009.

18 April 2009 Alfred Moselakgomo of Sowetan newspaper reports that the widow of murdered farmer Willem Van Heerden, 73, killed in Dec 2000, was ‘pleased’ on learning that the Justice department had issued a warrant for the three men who had been imprisoned for killing her husband.

• The convicted murderers had, very inexplicably, been released by the authorities ‘pending their appeal’ after they were convicted and sentenced – but they had then vanished.

Elaine van Heerden had publicly slammed the authorities for releasing her husband’s convicted killers —  saying that until they were back in jail ‘she would not feel safe.’ Her husband, a farmer at Low’s Creek in Mpumalanga, was ambushed near Nelspruit and died in a hail of bullets.
After the murder, former counterintelligence unit member Dean van Coller, Moses Mboshane and Lucky Nkosi, were found guilty of murder.
They were each sentenced to 18 years in jail but were for some inexplicable reason, ‘ released pending their appeal ‘ against the sentences.
This appeal was dismissed four years ago however Van Coller, Mboshane and Nkosi were still at large.

Police had said earlier this week, after Mrs Van Heerden’s complaint was published, that there was “no way” they could arrest the killers because warrants for their arrest had not been issued.
So yesterday Justice Department spokesman Zolile Nqayi announced that they had issued the arrest warrants, and that a manhunt had been launched.
“We are investigating who did not do their work that resulted in this blunder, which saw the (convicted) killers being free.”

• Trial of two suspects . Women were killed by glass shards stabbed into  their vaginas; left to bleed to death, bodies also had stabbing wounds and half-torched.

April 16 2009 –  FREE STATE, South Africa. About 100 Boer protestors staged a gruesome re-enactment at theOdendaalsrust magistrate’s court  of the way in which two local farm women, Alice Lotter, 77, and her daughter  Helen, 57, were tortured to death at their farm in Allenridge near Welkom in the Free State recently. Two of the men arrested and being charged for allegedly carrying out these gruesome acts applied for bail on April 17. Their bail application was moved to May 18 and they were ordered to remain in local police custody. There also was another ‘anti-crime demonstration’ by the local mayor and the African National Congress members – with the  usual toyi-toyiing and loud ANC-freedom song chanting — but against en entirely another case, in which four men, including two white farmers, were arrested for allegedly murdering a local man who had, claimed the ANC demonstrators, ‘stolen maize on a local farm’, was killed and then ‘dumped next to the road’.

The intense anger of the Afrikaner-Boer community was shown in the gruesome re-enactment staged outside the court by about 100 demonstrators, in which they used large stuffed dolls to demonstrate how the Lotter mother and daughter were killed: According to forensic evidence, these women were tortured by the murderers’ allegedly inserting broken glass bottles into their vaginas; they also had  stab wounds and their bodies had also been partially torched, according to investigating police’s formal statements.

The organisers of this protest —  the Brandwag of Eugene Terre’Blanche’s Christen Boerevolk organisation, and the Boerevolk Freedom Foundation, headed by Edwin Leemans — had arranged caravan sites, tents and rooms at farms to house the demonstrators the night before — so that the protestors could be present at the court house at opening time at 8am.

HUGE POLICE PRESENCE

They staged a peaceful vigil. The organisers said the huge police contingent to stop them from entering the law court, was ‘truly amazing: ‘where were the police when these women were being tortured…’ one asked .

However also present at the court room was the local ANC, headed by the town’s mayor Mrs Mathabo Leeto, also held an ‘anti-crime’ demonstration outside the law court  — but against a completely different case in connection with the alleged murder of a local man, Daniel Mothhanke, found dead next to a road.

Lotter bail application postponed to May 18

Inside the courtroom, the two men accused of stabbing the Lotter women with broken bottles in their vaginas, and then letting them bleed to death, Thapelo Hlongwane (21) and Joseph Khumalo (19) were ordered to remain in custody and the bail application was postponed to 18 May.

Daniel Mothhanke case postponed to May 25

The ANC demonstrators claimed that Monthhanke was  ‘beaten to death after stealing maize’on an accused farmer’s farm and ‘then dumped on the side of the road’.The ANC, headed by the local mayor Mz Mathabo Leeto, was demonstrating against the bail applications of the four men,  farm-owner Barend Jacobus Nel (29), workers Lazarus Leboko (29), Andries Moholo (37) and Gideon Johannes van Zyl (29). They also were ordered to remain in custody until their bail application on 25 May.

They clearly weren’t very pleased with each other:  The mayor Mrs Leeto who headed the ANC-demonstration, threw her weight around, claiming that the Afrikaners’ demonstration was ‘illegal’ whereas the ANC-demonstrators ‘had obtained permission.’  She also ordered the local police to ‘do their jobs’ and deal with these illegal demonstrators. The two groups were then trying to outdo each other by singing ANC-freedom chants on the one side, while the Boers were loudly singing the National Anthem on the other side. There was no violence. When the mayor tried to hold a speech in which she said the Afrikaners’ demonstration was ‘illegal’, and that they should ‘’cross the colour line and join the ANC ‘in their demonstration against crime in general’, this speech was drowned out when the Boers started singing the national anthem again, reportedly very loudly according to Beeld newspaper. The two Boers groups — the Brandwag of Eugene Terre’Blanche’s Christen Boerevolk organisation, and the Boerevolk Freedom Foundation, headed by Edwin Leemans —   then moved away  from the ANC demonstrators and held their re-enactment of the Lotter’s women’s gruesome murder near the law court. They then strung up large dolls on gallows, with signs saying “the gallows for the torture-murderers’.

Franz Richter murder: six suspects; German-born wild-life reserve owner was murdered at world-famous Heia Safari Ranch, Cradle of Mankind, Muldersdrift November 2007:

• Six on trial at Johannesburg High Court for Richter murder deny charges

Aprio 16 2009, JOHANNESBURG HIGH COURT. Daniëlla du Plooy and Liezl Temmingh of Beeld newspaper report on the murder trial of six suspects in the Johannesburg High Court. On trial are his former housekeeper Mrs. Celfwe Mbokazi, Johnson Chwire, Dumisani Xulu, Gilbert Mosadi, Ronnie Khumalo and Vincent Dlamini. They have all denied guilt.The documents in court show that Richter, 80, was murdered while enroute to pay his workers at Phumangena uMuzi, a Zulu village in the Cradle of Humankind nature reserve, when he and an employee was shot to death. Richter’s murder was a ‘summary execution’, the documents said. Two of the suspects used to work for Richter, including the housekeeper. Chwire, Xulu, Mosadi and Khumalo also face corruption charges for allegedly trying to bribe a police officer with R15,000 cash in exchange for destruction of the dossiers. Mrs. Gaby Burgmer, Richter ‘s daughter, who now runs the popular tourist resort, demonstrated with local residents of Muldersdrift outside the court. Mrs Burgmer, ’who is a state witness, said she was very unhappy that the trial has already been postponed twice on the request of the prosecution. 2009-04-10 Van den Bosch Dutch farm couple murdered, Boschkop, Pretoria

Murdered Dutch dairy farm couple leaves behind 12 children; 27 grandchildren…

FAMILY PICTURE:  Pretoria dairy farmers Johannes and Jacobi Van den Bosch, a Dutch immigrant couple who went to South Africa in 1982, were murdered on Easter Friday, April 10 2009. The 63-year-old farmer was bludgeoned to death while milking the cows at 4am. Wife Jacobi van den Bosch-Griep, 60, was stabbed to death inside the family homestead. The couple were deeply religious, sober farmers from Oukoop in The Netherlands. They were active members of the Reformed Church in Pretoria which has close ties to the Reformed (“Gereformeerde”) Church in The Netherlands. They had twelve children – three children live in The Netherlands with 3 grandchildren, and 24 grandchildren live in South Africa Rev A. Schultink of the Reformed church in Bruinisse, The Netherlands – who travels to serve the 200-member religious community in Pretoria once a year to officiate at weddings and baptisms  – says the Dutch church members were enormously shocked by these murders. It was the first time in the church’s existence that they had been confronted this closely with the violence which has raged in South Africa for so many years, writes the Nederlands Dagblad on April 14 2009. April 16 2009 – One of their sons, who lives in a farm house next to his parents’ on the same smallholding where he farms with breadfruit trees, cattle feed and pigs, discovered their bodies on Good Friday. One of the couple’s other sons,  Evert van den Bosch, who lives in nearby Pretoria, told me by telephone today that the funeral service will take place on Friday April 17 from 11am at the Gereformeerde Kerk at Wapadrand. This was not his parents’  congregation but, said Evert, the service will be held in this larger building to help accommodate the large number of mourners who are expected to attend. The burial will take place at the Pretoria North cemetery. Mr van den Bosch, 63, was bludgeoned to death at the milk shed at 4am where he’d gone as usual to milk his 30 cows. His wife Jacobi (Cobi) , 60, inside the homestead, was first hit over the head, and then stabbed repeatedly while she was unconscious, police said. Both Dutch immigrants died on the scene. Police described the crime scene as ‘extremely bloody’. The police said the only items missing were two cellphones and a pocket knife belonging to Mr Van den Bosch – and said they could not establish a motive, because ‘a considerable amount of cash, weapons and expensive jewellery’ were left behind in the homestead, untouched. Mr Evert van den Bosch said his parents, besides leaving twelve children, also leave 29 grandchildren, three in The Netherlands, and the rest all live in the Greater Pretoria/Randburg/Krugersdorp region. Evert said he had emigrated to South Africa with the family when he was just 6 years old in 1982. “My parents were very hardworking and sober living farmers. They originally came from Oukoop (about 6km from Gouda, in South Holland province). They had then worked at Noordhoekin Brabant province before emigrating to South Africa to farm there,’  he said. His father always milked his 30-odd Fresian dairy cows himself and only had one employee to help him around the agricultural smallholding near Pretoria where the couple were murdered.  At the time of the murder, one cow was pregnant and there also were some calves. said Evert. Murder trial, victim Israeli farmer Ezrah Podolski, Cramond, KZN killed 2006-09-05

• April 14 2009: trial of two murder suspects Nkosingipile Khumalo, Zikhulile Simbela at Pietermaritzburg High Court, KZN;

Miriam, 61-year-old widow of Israeli-born Cramond/Pietermaritzburg farmer Ezrah Podolski told the court how she was kicked and punched by the two men in the dock, Khumalo and Simbela, who are on trial for bludgeoning her husband with a shovel and then hanging him in a tree.Mrs Podolski, testifying in the murder trial of Nkosingipile Khumalo, 21, and Zikhulile Simbela, 29, said these men had entered their farm on September 5 2006 ‘on the pretext of looking for jobs.’ However, when her husband had left to “allocate jobs to the men”, she testified that three men, including these two, had then gone to the homestead, where they assaulted Podolski and the family’s domestic helper, Gloria Ngidi.  Miriam Podolski testified how she then was punched, kicked and pulled by her hair before one of the men tied her to a chair.  At some point during the assault, Podolski said she was told that her husband had been killed, and that she too would be killed. Once she thought her attackers had left, she managed to loosen her bonds and called police for help. she testified. She told the high Court in Pietermaritzburg that she believes God interceded and saved her as she prayed while being constantly kicked, punched and slapped and when she fell down pulled up by her hair. A photograph submitted to the court as evidence, shows that a rope tying the frail Podolski to the tree went through his mouth.Domestic Gloria Ngidi testified that after Podolski took the men to the work site, one of arrived at the farm home saying that Podolski needed a “machine for felling trees”. Neither Ngidi nor Miriam knew where to find it and Miriam told Ngidi to tell the man to tell Podolski to fetch it. A second man came and the two of them pretended to leave, but after a short while a third joined them and they walked into the couple’ homestead. Ngidi followed them inside as their conduct was unusual. They seized her, assaulted her and tied her up. Miriam said that when the men entered her home, one grabbed her round the throat, choked her and demanded “the money”.

‘Have mercy on me’
She said while one was beating her she asked: “How could you this?” He replied: “Because we want the money.”
After more beating she asked him: “Why are you doing this to me? Have mercy on me. Do you believe in God?”
But he told her to keep quiet because he did not know English.

• She told the court she still has a scar on her lip, which was torn during the assault. A police photograph shows that she had a black eye as well as other injuries. One assailant took her to a small bedroom and the door was closed. She said she realised she had to get him out of that room. She told them that he should see if “he could find something” at a water tank as her husband sometimes left things there. He took her from the small bedroom and she fell down, but he pulled her up by her hair and continued kicking, punching and slapping her.

He admitted to killing husband
She asked him where her husband was and he replied that they had killed him. She did not believe him then. While still beating her he said that she was going to die. She told him that their money was in a wardrobe and he threw everything out of the wardrobe. He asked for more money and she said there was no more. He asked for a credit card, but she said that they did not have one, only a cheque book, but they did not take it.

• One made her sit on a chair and tied her wrists very tightly together, trussed her feet and tied her to the chair. She then heard steps on the roof and she realised that one of them was going to the water tank to look for more items. All the while she prayed. After she thought they had left, she managed to loosen her feet by moving side to side. Still tied to the chair, she managed to make her way to the telephone and called the police. 2009-04-01 Jan van Wyk, 82, and Basie Venter, 65, mutilated for ‘traditional medicine’ on their farms, Vierfontein Viljoenskroon, Free State – Bloemfontein – The brutal ‘muti-related murders’ of two Free State farmers at Vierfontein were deplored by the commercial farmers body Free State Agriculture. This follows the arrest of an unnamed, 25-year-old man on Tuesday morning on the farm of Jan van Wyk, 82, at Vierfontein. It was reported that the arrested man was found sweeping the veranda and calmly making food on Tuesday morning, when he was discovered by Johan Engelbrecht and other members of Free State Agriculture’s rural safety organisation. The man ran inside the homestead and threatened the security detail with gardening shears. They were able to apprehend him, however, reported Tom de Wet and Marisa Phillips of Beeld newspaper. Van Wyk’s mutilated body was found in the dining room of the house. One of the suspected murder weapons and beads covered in blood were found buried in the fields next to a lion camp on Venter’s homestead. Van Wyk,  a retired policeman who only alone stayed on his farm over the weekends, was allegedly lured outside where he was bashed over the head with a shovel, dragged inside the homestead while still alive — and then mutilated.  This is a clear indication that this was a ‘murder to harvest body parts for ‘traditional medicine’, as this is inevitably done while the poor victims are still alive. Johan Engelbrecht of Free State Farm Security said he was also investigating the muti-murder of another neighbouring farmer, Basie Venter, 65, a few hours before when another farmer stopped him on the road and  warned him that he ‘suspected trouble’ on the Van Wyk farm next door, too. Van Wyk wasn’t on his stoep as he usually did early in the morning, reading his Bible. There seems little doubt that the same man was also involved in the murder of Basie Venter. Venter’s widow Mary, 68, had witnessed the attack around 21:15 on Monday through a window in the house. Venter was attacked with an iron rod, police said. Steytler said the murders, which  are muti-related, was ‘barbaric and had no place in a modern world’.Kroonstad police spokesman Maselela Langa confirmed the murders. He said the 25-year-old man, a Lesotho citizen, appeared in the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court Wednesday.  He did not provide the arrested man’s name nor his motives. 2009-03-18 Willouw de Klerk Cilliers, Loudine van Blerk, killed in farm attack, Brandvlei NC

As soon as the three men attacked, they shot dead Mrs Van Blerk, and kidnapped the farmer and the housekeeper from the homestead in Brandvlei on Tuesday, March 18 2009. The farmer, helpless and tied up, was a hostage in the farm attackers’ stolen car when it crashed – killing the farmer, said Ehlers. After shooting dead Mrs van Blerk, the farmer and the housekeeper were bundled into the farmer’s Toyota Corolla, but while speeding away the robbers rolled the car on the way to nearby Williston. While two of the robbers kept watch over the tied-up farmer and the housekeeper, the third robber went back to the farm and stole the farmer’s Toyota Hilux bakkie. He drove it back to his accomplices and their captives and after everyone was dumped back into to the bakkie they set off again. However, they crashed the bakkie too, and Cilliers then died on the scene. Police arrived after receiving a report of an accident, attended to the housekeeper and arranged for two of the apparently injured farm attackers to be taken to hospital, then went to the farm and found Mrs Van Blerk lying dead in the ransacked home.While inspecting the premises, they came across a third attacker and arrested him. He was an artisan and worked at Polokwane smelters. He , his family and friends were having a birthday braai for his wife Wilma on Suikerfontein farm. Van der Walt lives in Pietersburg/Polokwane. Police capt. Malesela Mogale said the deadly shot was fired by a .308 hunting rifle which was found in the bushes near the crime. It was determined that this rifle was stolen three weeks earlier during an armed robbery at a Pietersburg home. Several thousand SA police firearms ‘are missing, never returned, or stolen’…

2009-02-19 Three women kidnapped Bronkhorstspruit farm:  survive

Three South African women, Anna Myburgh, daughter-in-law Edri and their housekeeper Paulina Moyana, were kidnapped from a farm near Pretoria by their gardener and an accomplice, and left severely injured. The kidnapping was ‘pure revenge’, relatives say. Edri Myburgh’s husband Henk (pictured by Beeld newspaper, left being consoled by a friend) said the gardener and his mother were disgruntled over the fact that the mother had given up her job as their housekeeper to the kidnapped Mrs Moyana. When she changed her mind and asked for her old job back, the Myburghs refused. Henk Myburgh said the revenge for this disagreement was so cruel, with his mother and wife extensively tortured and left with such severe injuries that both need emergency plastic surgery and the housekeeper now paralysed, that he ‘will never be able to forgive these men’. The Myburgh family gardener and an accomplice overpowered Mrs Anna Myburgh and housekeeper Paulina Moyana on Wednesday morning at home. Anna was so badly tortured with a hot iron by these men, who also assaulted and stabbed her with a knife, that she requires plastic surgery .Her daughter Edri, who had unwittingly walked in while her mother was being assaulted, was also beaten up. The three women – the housekeeper was unharmed at this stage — were then dumped into a car, driven for 53 kilometres and thrown out along the roadside near the town of Ogies. There, Edri was shot in the mouth execution style, but she survived because the bullet had entered between her nose and lip and shattered her left jaw. Her mother was also shot in the head, and that bullet also still needs to be removed. The men then drove off with the housekeeper, leaving the two Afrikaans women for dead along the roadside. However, the men then started arguing so vehemently with each other about what to do with Mrs Moyana, that they lost control of the car and crashed it., police said. They were arrested at the crash scene.The housekeeper, who appeared to be paralysed according to the emergency rescue services, was rushed to hospital.Edri’s distraught husband Henk said that even in her injured state, his wife still managed to walk for about 15km to try and find help, barefoot and clad only in her underwear, before a local farmer found her and took her and her mother to hospital. After the crash, the kidnappers, who may not yet be named, were arrested. “I hope they’ll be jailed for life,” her husband Henk said. “It won’t make my wife better, but it will help a little. They were too cruel. It was revenge.” Police captain Simon Petrus Mashiloane, said the unnamed gardener and his accomplice will probably appear in court in Bronkhorstspruit north of Pretoria on Friday on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, illegal possession of a firearm and robbery. Another white South African farm dweller has found been murdered, bringing the death rate for whites, mostly Afrikaans-speakers on the country’s commercial farms and smallholdings. Picture: Sheep farmer Johnnie Cilliers, who works and lives on a smallholding in the Bronkhorstspruit district north of Pretoria with his lawyer dad Doppie, 66, was deeply traumatised by finding his dad tortured and murdered.The father and son lived in homes on the same agricultural smallholding near Bronkhorstspruit. His father worked at the Cullinan law courts. Johnnie found his father had been murdered in a very cruel way.His hands and feet were hogtied together, he had been strangled and he had also been shot in the upper body. The grief-stricken sheep farmer said he and his dad had been close, and often went horse riding together.”We’ve never had any incidents on the smallholding in the past seven years,” he said. A long-time colleague of the dead lawyer, Johan Paulsen, 42, said the staff at the Cullinan court are like one big family, and everyone has been plunged into diep grief and shock over the horrific death of a much-loved colleague. According to investigating police, the dead man’s cellphone, a hunting rifle and a handgun were missing. No other valuables were touched inside the homestead. Trackers tried to follow the muddy footprints of several men but no-one has thus far been arrested. 2009-02-16 Farm wife Helene Potgieter of Koppies threatened: “I will give you AIDS’…

NO PICTURE AVAILABLE – In another farm attack that day in the Free State, a young Afrikaans farm couple was attacked in the Koppies district in the Free State province. The wife Helene Potgieter was beaten up and one attacker threatened to ‘give her AIDS’. Her husband Manie was assaulted over the head with a crow bar and required stitches at the hospital afterwards after they were attacked inside their fenced homestead at 4am in February 15. The couple said they were lucky: Helene was not raped, and they both survived the ordeal. Afrikaans journalist Tom de Wet writes in the Afrikaans daily Volksblad that four men had broken down the security door of the homestead to get in – and when Mr Potgieter walked into the hallway to confront them, he was attacked. He rushed back into the bedroom and he and his wife tried to push the door closed, but the four attackers managed to open it slightly – and fired a shot into the room and pushed their way in. Potgieter was tied up and a gun was held to his head while Mrs Potgieter was dragged throughout the house while the attackers looked for valuables. One man kept saying to her: “Do you want AIDS, I will give you AIDS…’ she said. The couple never keep cash in the house, but the $15 in their wallets were taken – and the attackers, oddly enough, also took their training shoes, cellphones, some tools, a camera, Mrs Potgieter said. Many other easy to carry valuables inside the homestead remained untouched – which often is a feature of South African farm attacks: crime researcher Johan Burger of the Institute of Security Studies says the main motive for carrying out these attacks against Afrikaner whites is revenge, terror and murder, not greed. WALKERVILLE, Vaal triangle. Hendriks said Greig was walking behind his wife and the man to the kitchen. “My mother-in-law couldn’t find the keys. Then my parents-in-law wrestled with the man to get the gun.” Hendriks said his father-in-law died on the kitchen floor after being shot once in the head and twice in the chest. Jeanette Greig was badly assaulted and stabbed with a knife. She has lost her hearing permanently because her eardrums burst during the beating.”My father-in-law’s mother, Hannah Greig, was shot and killed by robbers in exactly the same spot in 1996. It’s so ironic,” Hendriks said. The late Hannah Greig’s attackers, a gang of twelve armed men, were caught by the then still operative commando farm guard units, and are currently still serving a combined 175 years in prison. 20090122 86-year-old smallholder attacked, Potchefstroom
Jan 23 2009, Potchefstroom. In the second attack within two days, an unnamed 86-year-old Afrikaner woman was tied up and defenceless yesterday for 14 hours in her bathroom on a smallholding in Potchefstroom. She was found dehydrated, covered in bruises and knife cuts when she was finally discovered, said ER24 emergency service spokesman Werner Vermaak. Police inspector Wilmarie van der Merwe said the woman’s name cannot be provided as yet.  She was attacked inside her bedroom at 11pm at the Mooibank smallholdings, where many retired working-class Afrikaners live.The police inspector said that the old lady was attacked by two men with knives inside her bedroom.  The unnamed woman was stabbed with knives, beaten up and tied up. 20090116 REV ALBERT VENTER KIDNAPPED FROM MARBLE HALL FARM

Rapport journalist Willem Pelser writes from Marble Hall that a massive search with a police helicopter and local farmers was launched to rescue local Dutch Reformed Church dominee Albert Venter from a large, armed farm-attack gang which had driven off with the dominee in a car-boot on Friday. Rev Venter was deeply grateful for the rapid police reaction which he says undoubtedly saved his life. He was enroute to the church office near the Dutch Reformed Church in Marble Hall when grabbed at gunpoint by five farm attackers at his gate. Four had handguns. They manhandled him roughly, even standing on his back while searching him for valuables. When he pleaded with them not to take his wedding ring, one put a revolver to his head, shouting for the dominee to shut up – he would not hesitate to kill him. He then was hogtied and dumped into the boot of Venter’s Volkswagen Polo Classic. They drove around with him at breakneck speed on a dirt road for a while before returning to his own farm house, where they tried to attack Mrs Venter at gunpoint. Or tried to – became the dominee’s wife managed to lock herself in the study while calling the police on her cellphone. The gang fled, with Venter still in the car-boot.  They then stopped the car in the veld and fled on foot: the police helicopter arrived within five minutes and released the badly shaken dominee from the boot. It’s inhuman what has happened to her.’ Police superintendent Gerrie Agenbach of Nelspruit said her body was discovered at around 1pm on her farm Rietfontein near Alkmaar, which is about 15km from Nelspruit. From marks on her face, it appeared as if she had also been hacked or sliced with a knife – possibly one of her own kitchen knives. Dave Fourie, manager of her security company J & M Sekuriteit, said she had been a client for a long time. They had received no panic-alerts from her. Mrs Holtzhausen was a widow, her husband Professor Kas Holtzhausen, a well-known agricultural expert and macadamia-farmer, died six months earlier. All the commercial farms in this region have been earmarked by the ANC-government for confiscation. 20090201 Dr Paul Meyer, veterinarian, murdered in Gravelotte

Four Mozambiquan migrants appeared in the Phalaborwa magistrate’s court on February 17, 2009, charged with the kidnapping/murder of Dr Paul Meyer of Gravellotte two weeks earlier. A fifth suspect was arrested in Mozambique and also expected to appear in a law court there for hijacking Meyer’s car. The unarmed Dr. Paul Meyer (38) was shot dead execution-style in front of his wife Marelise and babyson Wouter after they and their neighbours were kidnapped from their farm in the Selati wildlife reserve. Police superintendent Ronel Otto said police traced the five men after game-rangers came across a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser hidden in thick woods near the Kruger Wildlife reserve. Police established that the Land cruiser had been hijacked in Gauteng, and after further inquiries discovered the four men hiding in a squatter camp outside Phalaborwa. They had planned to take the Land cruiser to Mozambique for resale. The fifth man got into a gun fight with Mozambiquan police and was arrested there, among others for illegally imporing Meyer’s double-cabbed farm vehicle. The Meyers, together with their little baby Wouter and their neighbours, Pierre and Sue Gallagher, were attacked while visiting in the Meyer homestead together. Journalist Graeme Hosken of the Pretoria News reports on January 17 2009 that ‘gangs of armed robbers have besieged a Pretoria suburb in a spate of attacks in which two people were shot, a domestic worker raped and dozens of Afrikaner home-owning families terrorised.

Marina Bosch, business owner, shot in leg

• The five-day reign of terror in Pierre van Ryneveld which began on Monday continued on Friday when business owner and mother of two, Marina Bosch, was shot in the leg.  Bosch was cashing up during the early hours of Friday morning when three gunmen stormed her home shooting her driver, Charles Smit, twice in the chest, critically injuring him before opening fire on her. The gang escaped with cash, cellphones and stock. Bosch’s husband Christo, who managed to hide his children under blankets as the attackers rampaged through his house, said his family was terrified. “These guys shoot without asking any questions. They don’t care whether you live or die,” he said describing how his wife had pleaded with them not to shoot her. He said the gunmen had surprised them as the driver, Smit was leaving. “As he opened the door they opened fire. They just began shooting,” he said, adding that Smit was in a critical condition in Steve Biko Hospital, while his wife was recovering in Unitas Hospital. He said the worst thing was the feeling of helplessness. “There is simply nothing you can do,” said Bosch.

‘Cynthia Uren, terrorised for 3 hours:’just shoot without asking any questions’

• The attack on her Fury Street home came hours after a foiled attack on another woman in her home, and shortly after robbers stormed the home of Cynthia Uren, attacking and terrorising her and her children in a three-hour ordeal. The attack in Uren’s security complex home ended when she leapt from her car as the four gunmen raced off with her and household appliances. “I was not going to let them take me. I was rather going to be shot than dragged off somewhere terrible and raped,” she said.

Neels Kruger, attacked by large gang which fired at his fleeing children:

• The gunmen are believed to have returned hours later to attack another homeowner in the same complex where they held him and his family up, robbing them of jewellery, money and cellphones. The gang, according to local community police forum members and police sources, is also believed to be responsible for the attack on Neels Kruger and his children during the early hours of Tuesday morning. ‘There is simply nothing you can do’ The gunmen surprised Kruger’s children as they were saying goodbye to friends. Neels Kruger, describing how his children fled for their lives as the gunmen chased after them, said what had happened was frightening. Recalling how the bullets narrowly missed hitting them, he said: “It is only by the grace of God that we are alive. These attacks happen so quickly and when you least expect them,” he said. Police spokeswoman, Aveline Hardaker, said the police were determining whether the attacks were linked. Opening fire on Kruger’s children when one of their friends spotted them, the gunmen chased their victims into their Spitfire Street home where they continued firing indiscriminately before fleeing empty-handed when the house alarm was sounded. Security guards who spotted the robbers fleeing along the R21 were forced to abandon their chase when the gunmen shot out their vehicle’s tyres.

Domestic worker raped at Collyer Avenue:

ATTACKED LIMPOPO FARMERS GETS NO HELP FROM POLICE
Farmers in the Leeuwkuil area just outside Pietersburg/Polokwane have been the victims of armed attackers four times this month – yet the police do not seem prepared to do anything about it. Only when one farmer had made a citizen’s arrest of six men loading his furniture into their bakkie, called the police and told them he’d blocked the access road to his farm, did the police respond, showing up with 17 police vehicles and a police helicopter…

Sagrys de Beer, attacked twice – wouldn’t take it any more…

• According to Mr Sagrys de Beer, who farms with his father, the latest spate of crime started on 25 December last year when around 11 of their sheep were stolen. He said the farm’s perimeter fence as well as the kraal’s fence had been cut.  There were also clear footprints in the area. “We reported the matter to the police immediately and someone did come out to take a statement but to date, we are still waiting for someone to come and investigate. “The tracks could probably have been followed.”On 30 December 2008, De Beer said, he also came home to find six men loading furniture and kitchen equipment onto their bakkie.

When Sagrys demanded that the six thieves put back his  possessions back, they rudely refused. He then blocked the exit road and called the police, saying he’d made a citizen’s arrest and would not let them leave his farm.  “This time the police’s response was fantastic! I counted 17 police vehicles and the police helicopter was also in the air.”

Police let the attackers go: ‘it was all a misunderstanding…’

• But after the police had spoken to the suspects, one of whom works on the farm, the police decided not to make any arrests because the suspects “had explained that it was a misunderstanding”. After arguing for some time with the police, De Beer says only the man who works for him was arrested. This in spite of one the released suspects threatening De Beer by saying ‘that they would be back’.

Dogs poisoned, diesel and batteries stolen, food, cell phones looted – no cops…

“I don’t understand how the police could use so much manpower and then not follow through.”On 1 January more sheep were stolen and on 5 January one of the houses on the farm was broken into and cell phones and tinned food was stolen. The police did not attend either of these crime scenes. Last Monday, De Beer’s children’s bicycles were stolen but the police did not bother to come out to the farm until De Beer eventually managed to get hold of an officer at 23:00. Diesel and batteries are also stolen from their trucks constantly and their dogs have also been poisoned, he says.“We tried contacting our sector manager but he was away on leave.

• “We then contacted the head of crime prevention but he did not react to our complaint. Hazyview farmer, 80, stoned to death, wife raped, Kruger Park gate

The farmer and his children Nieke (9) and Rikus (15) were visiting with their neighbour Kobus Maré. They stopped at the farm gate at 8pm to open it, when Van Staden got attacked on the driver’s side. The farmer slammed open his bakkie’s door and hit the man standing there with the gun, and the two grappeled. Only then did he realise that one of his comrades was also attacking him from behind.”This guy fired two shots at me. When he tried to pull the trigger a third time, the gun failed’. And those few seconds were just enough to grab his own legal handgun from its hip holster and fire back.The man was hit in the chest and dropped down dead on the spot. Van Staden also fired towards the comrades but they ran off.The rusty handgun was dropped.Police traced it as one which had been ‘stoilen from the police’. They believe it was this rusty because it was buried for a while.During the attack Mrs Martie van Staden, 43, was attending a funeral in Cape Town. She is the secetary of Pretoria attorney Koos van Rensburg – whose ballerina-daughter  Estée van Rensburg, 19, was murdered in a gruesome murder attack at her parental home in Faerie Glen last year.Mrs Barnard had been training for the past few months in preparation for the Sani Two Sea biking marathon next month. Her future father-in-law John Williams (61) said he’d often gone with her on training runs.On Wednesday they were planning to ride with a Centurion mountain bike club from Doringkloof shopping centre, he said.He phoned her around 4:40pm, but her cellphone just kept ringing. However they thought that she probably was enroute and the bikers decided to take the route to meet her there.They first found her water-carrier on the path they were riding on.Her son Morne, 20, was riding ahead and came across her mother, blood-soaked and unconscious, next to a barbed wire fence and her bike.She had a stab wound to the left side of her neck and blood streamed from her right arm and leg.An elderly man was seated next to her who had apparently come across her and had already sent somebody to fetch help, waiting while it arrived, said Williams.Nothing of value is stolen except her cellphone. Williams says he’s very, very angry. ‘Why was all this violence necessary? Why stab her for just a cellphone?’Mrs Barnard and Grant Williams are planning to marry in August. Police captain Adéle Myburgh says an armed attacker stabbed an unnamed 41-year-old man and two family members at around 8pm inside their homestead. The suspect then threw their bodies in a drainage ditch outside the pig sties.The murdered man’s son came across his father’s body at 7.30am on Christmas Day and contacted the police.

‘ALL WHITE DOGS WILL BE KILLED’, FREE STATE COPS PROMISE FARMER

Jan 8 2009. Tom de Wet Volksblad journalist Tom de Wet writes from Odendaalsrus in the Free State that elderly Afrikaner farmer Gert van Vuuren, 68, a former local police reservist for many years, was allegedly called a “white dog” by police officers, and told that “all white dogs in South Africa will be killed”.

For several weeks now, Volksblad has reported complaints from the community about poor service delivery and alleged brutality by the police in Odendaalsrus. Apparently the police even stood by, watching while a woman was cruelly assaulted by the father of her child, despite her having a domestic violence interdict from the law court against him. Rudi van Vuuren has visited the new station commissioner, Senior Superintendent M B Mbongo, to discuss what happened to his father, Gert van Vuuren, 68, on his farm on Saturday. He was advised to file a complaint against the police officers involved.

Police cursed him, called him a racist for no reason anyone could determine

Rudy said three police officers arrived on the farm Hilton in a police vehicle at about 14:00 on Saturday. They told his father they were there to bring the R100 which a former farm labourer owed him. One of policemen then asked why Gert ‘would take money from a poor man’, whereupon he answered that the man owed him the money. One of the constables then allegedly called Gert ‘a racist’ and also cursed his mother. Gert told them to leave the farm immediately, whereupon they allegedly pulled out their guns and called him a ‘white dog’. They then left. When they returned later on, Rudi’s mother telephoned her son. Upon his arrival on the farm, the policeman once again cursed his parents and his sister. The police tried to leave when he arrived, but Rudi van Vuuren blocked the road with his vehicle and took a pen and paper to get their names. They apparently refused to identify themselves at first, but after he told them that he used to be a major in the commandos and that he knew his rights and the law, one of the policemen identified himself. The driver of the vehicle, who was doing the cursing, also identified himself.

Reinforcements in EIGHT police cars against one elderly, unarmed white man…

Rudy said he then tried unsuccessfully to call the police station in town and 10111 in order to file a complaint against the policemen and get them off the farm. While he was on the phone, one of the policemen allegedly told Rudy he ‘could call Welkom, Bloemfontein and Pretoria; but no one would or could touch him.’ After Rudy had moved his vehicle and ordered the policemen to leave the farm, they refused to do so and said they were waiting for reinforcements. The reinforcements then arrived, in no less than eight police vehicles. When Rudy questioned this, he was told they had been called out to the farm. Apparently they were told a huge lie, namely that a farm worker was being assaulted by the farmers on the farm and that the policemen who had wanted to help the man had been attacked, cursed, threatened at gunpoint and that the dogs had been set loose on them. Rudy said he would like to know, among other things, why charges of defeating the ends of justice and crimen injuria were now being investigated against him and his father. He would also like to know what the police had to do with private matters such as the return of R100 and, to top it all, how they could use a police vehicle to do so while they were on duty. Provincial superintendent Sam Makhele said people should first take their complaints to the station commissioner – even if the station commander may have been involved —  whereupon the matter would be handled through the right channels. ‘National farm attack gang” arrested by KZN police in Sandton, Gauteng

On Friday, 2 January 2009, detectives attached to the SAPS Howick in Pietermaritzburg, KZN,  acting on very specific information, travelled to Sandton area in Gauteng and arrested three suspects in connection with the December 10 2008 farm attack at Freeland Farm, Dargle, KZN. Police believe this armed gang forms part of a large gang which travels all over South Africa specifically to attack white farmers. These alleged farm-attackers are arrested at a Sandton house and several robbed items recovered: four firearms, one a shotgun identified as looted from Freeland Farm during the robbery. During the afternoon of Wednesday, 10 Dec 2008, Mrs Linzi-Anne Smith (62) was at home on the farm when three men armed with handguns, entered the home and confronted her. Shortly thereafter, her husband, Robert Smith (65) and two friends were also ambushed as they entered the house. The gunmen assaulted Linzi–Anne Smith with a firearm before tying up the victims’ hands and feet with cable ties. The suspects then fled with a vehicle belonging to one of the friends, a gold coloured Toyota Corolla. As usually happens during farm attacks, this vehicle also was found abandoned the same afternoon in the Nottingham Roadarea.  Jewellery, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash were also taken by the suspects. The men are not yet named. They made their first remand appearance in the Howick Magistrates’ Court and were ordered into police custody for further investigation. Two of 12 gang members arrested for murder of dairy farmer Loffie van der Gryp

Dec 29 2008 KRUGERSDORP — Beeld journalist Amanda Roestoff reports that two black men appeared in the Krugersdorp magistrate’s court, arrested for the murder of local dairy farm-manager Loffie van der Gryp of Tarlton agricultural holdings, picture left. Dumisane Ncebesha (20) of Tarlton, and  Karlito Makambu (26) of Mozambique were charged with murdering Van der Gryp, 48, manager of the large Sterkfontein dairies on October 28 2008 in his office. They were not asked to plead. Their case was remanded to January 6 2008. Nothing was stolen during the attack.A gang of twelve black men had ambushed him while he was walking to the dairy farm’s office from his nearby rental home at night, tied him up and tortured him: bashing him over the head with large stones. They then split into groups, some attacking Van der Gryp’s wife Linda, 46,  sons Bennett (23), Roelof (21) and daughter Leandré (17), holding them at gunpoint inside their rental homestead next to the dairy. They then also attacked a local pastor, Boer Booysen, 65, of the Van der Gryp family’s AGS (Afrikaans evangelical) church – whose house they were renting and who suspected that something was wrong and had gone to investigate. The gang engaged the pastor in a gun battle, shooting Booysen in the leg and shooting dead Van der Gryp, who was lying tied up and bleeding with head wounds. Magistrate Joachim Nortjé remanded the case to 6 January next year for the bail application – keeping them in police custody in the meantime. Makambu is a Mozambiquan citizen, Ncebesha is a farm worker on Tarlton smallholdings. Sixteen-year old ‘boy’ charged with murder of Bronkhorstspruit farm wife Laetitia Prinsloo

PRETORIA. Dec 24 2008 — A 16-year-old ‘boy’- part of a feral youth gang — has been charged with the murder of an Afrikaner fam wife of Bronkhorstspruit who was shot dead while asleep in her bed, police said on Tuesday.

Director Sally de Beer said armed robbers shot and killed Laetitia Prinsloo, 54, and had shot her veterinarian husband Dr Duncan Prinsloo, 61, left, at the couple’s Vaalbank farmhouse east of Pretoria while they were asleep the early hours of November 20. Dr Prinsloo has just been discharged from hospital after a bullet was removed from his spine. He has made a miraculous recovery and is able to move about on crutches now. He told Beeld journalist Fanie van Rooyen that he’d wanted to be out of hospital before Christmas. The ‘youth’, part of a large armed gang of feral youths roaming the region, was arrested on Monday and Dr Prinsloo has made a positive identification that he had been among the three attackers who gunned down his wife. The ‘child’   would appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of murder and attempted murder.  “We are still investigating the case and expect to make more arrests. Combating house robberies is one of our top priorities and the South African Police Service is making every effort to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this barbaric crime trend,” de Beer said. Dec 22 2008 – The mutilated body of South African game-farm owner’s wife Sandy Gordon, 56, was found in their homestead near Blaauwbank in South Africa on Tuesday. The homestead is situated very close to South Africa’s very first goldmine in a historic region north of the capital city of Pretoria. see This past year alone, at least 50 white homesteaders in this region in the Magalies mountains north of Pretoria have already been murdered/attacked/assaulted and also raped in often sustained siege-like attacks by large groups of armed youths. And has also just become known, 65-year-old unmarriedVolksrust farmer Jan de Beer was also found murdered inside his homestead. His hands and feet had been trussed up together, and he was strangled slowly – with his own clothes. See their names

Farm murders depopulate the countryside, cause famine:

These ongoing armed sieges targetting rural families are also depopulating the countryside of white food-producers.The number of food-producing commercial farms in South Africa has dropped from 85,000 in 1994 to a mere 11,500 last year, according to SA tax records.

• This has caused massive unemployment among farm-workers: 1,2million were employed on white-owned farms in 1994, less than 360,000 taxpaying workers now remain. Most SA farm workers live on cottages on the farms with their often very large, extended families. Thus the depopulation of white farms due to this ongoing violence is also causing another serious knock-on effect, with squatter towns growing larger every time jobless farm workers move away from desolate farms after such murders. Paradise for criminals:

The local agricultural community is shocked and dismayed, describing South Africa as ‘a paradise for criminals’. This is not far from wrong: more than 50 people a day are murdered and another 40 people a day are killed in violence-driven crime. Edwin Rowles, chairman of the armed neighbourhood watch for the agricultural smallholdings in the region, said that they have lodged countless appeals with the police for better rural security. Their local police station has only two police officers on duty and often when farms are attacked, the police do not show up for hours.

Since the last official SA government census in 2001, Solidarity trade union reports, there has  been a massive exodus by ‘whites’ from all the traditional Afrikaner rural areas — where food was being produced for the commercial markets while the farmers also were in a constant state of siege by armed militia-style gangs attacking primarily Afrikaner homesteads and killing their patriarchs. This year, two census surveys were carried out by experts from Solidarity trade union’s Helping Hand charity to establish the extent of empoverishment among Afrikaners – and to locate these ‘hidden, secret pockets of Afrikaner poverty’ so that these people can be helped with upliftment programmes launched by the union.

Their two surveys both found that rural Afrikaners are fleeing enmasse from their besieged traditionally-Afrikaner countryside to urban areas: an average increase of 35% was recorded in the Afrikaner populations of the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces by Solidarity since the official SA government census was carried out in 2001- hundreds of thousands of Afrikaners were living in informal housing such as those pictured here.http://www.helpinghandfund.co.za

These reports also note that such empoverished Afrikaners are being actively denied government food-aid; denied government housing; pushed out of their traditional working-class suburbs; refused jobs because they are ‘too white’ —  and often also turned away from public hospitals because they are ‘members of the previously privileged class’.

The violence targetting Afrikaners in the countryside but also in traditional Afrikaner suburbs forces them from their subsistence-smallholdings – especially from the greater Pretoria area smallholdings and around Brits, Magalies, Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, Randburg, Northcliff, Honeydew and the entire East Rand mining areas where many working-class Afrikaner suburbs are located.

These besieged families – denied all access to the SA job market because of anti-white hiring laws – now are increasingly forced to move to extremely marginal land to survive. The Pretoria North working-class Afrikaner suburb is now so massively overcrowded with empoverished backyard squatters, many feeble elderly and often very frail, malnourished children who can only afford one meal a week — that it is being referred to as the “Afrikaner ghetto’…

it was recorded by the census-taker and investigative journalist De Wet Potgieter that these often very pretty, blonde-haired blue-eyed Afrikaner girls and boys were also kidnapped in the greater Port Elizabeth/East London and greater Johannesburg areas and used in sexual-slavery brothels run by international Nigerian syndicates, where these Afrikaner children become drug-addicts and drug-carriers. Whereas in 1994 poverty and homelessness among Afrikaners was less than 2% of their population group, six years later, the 2001 SA census already recorded that Afrikaner families were living in 161,000 ‘informal structures’ by that year – and the Solidarity Trade union census found that the number of impoverished Afrikaner families had more than doubled since 2001 with one-third of the Afrikaner nation now having no income, no food-aid  and denied public housing, were forced to live in ‘informal structures…’

19860703 Afrikaner family farm massacre: police video

The link below gives access to a police forensic video of a typical ‘farm attack murder’ incident in South Africa.This video was filmed by the police forensic experts on 3 July 1986. The family’s names are not known.

The six black perpetrators who carried out these clearly racist murders were chased down by rural commandos and gunned down in a firefight within a week. These rural self-defence commandos with their expert San field-trackers have since then been unilaterally scrapped by black SA president Thabo Mbeki.Since this horror-massacre of this helpless Afrikaner farm family (the boy is pictured here) —  more than 2,990 white rural residents, mostly farmers, their family members and/or workers, have been murdered in a very similar way. The four victims shown on this gruesome video – with the commentary by the clearly upset forensic examiners in Afrikaans — were a four-member Afrikaner-family – the mom and two high-school-aged children, a boy and a girl, were choked to death with ropes before they were hung up, the children still in their school-uniforms – the mother and daughter strung up together.

• The father was attacked at the backdoor of the farm and put up a fight before he was slashed to death. It apparently occurred at around 8pm that day. There was no sign at all — as can be seen on this video — that anything valuable had been stolen. The motive, police determined, was pure hatred by the black killers against his white farm family in South Africa. The mother, who ran a cosmetics business on her farm, still was wearing her jewellery. This video provides the police-forensic examination’s explanation in Afrikaans: ‘The man ‘s body was covered up with a car-tyre and a quilt. The man’s wounds show that he put up a fight against the attacker’s knife- or panga he was being stabbed with. ‘The maid Sophie Malinga said she ‘was tied up in the maid’s room while the family was being murdered.’

April 18 2009 In a small family drama which repeats itself countrywide thousands of times a year, two little boys from a smallholding at Vanderbijlpark wept bitterly over their dead dogs,  poisoned by robbers yesterday.

The children wept as they kneeled next to their poisoned dogs. An armed security company spokesman said criminals often line meat with rat poison and throw it over the fences before breaking in. Thousands of dogs are poisoned in South Africa each year – although many are never reported, police say.

Their parents Renier and Elise watched the sad scene helplessly: Dad Renier said they’d probably buy new dogs to try and console their little sons, but not until the entire smallholding had been swept clean of poison….

The kids’ granddad Roelf Koekemoer, who lives with his family, says he was returning from his night-shift when he spotted his son-in-law’s farm vehicle passing him on the dirt-road. And when he went to the homestead to wake up the family, he noticed the cut wire, the dead dogs and the fact that the family’s Nissan 280ZX also was stolen.

Killed were the family’s Boerbull dogs Leeu, Babatjie and Susie, the three dachshunds Blackie, Snippie and Wolfie, and the boys’ little dogs Sussie and Killer. Dog poisoners are ruthless criminals

Chubb security services has been warning “of the alarming increase in dog poisoning by criminals lurking in SA’s suburbs” since last year. The armed response company said they are getting regular reports of such incidents. “Dog owners need to be vigilant for any suspicious visitors in and around the communities,” Chubb services said in a statement. They urge dog owners to keep their animals locked inside the house at night and also, to train them not to ever take any food from strangers.  “Criminals line meat with rat poison and throw it over the fence. If an owner suspects the dog has been poisoned, the dog must be rushed to a vet immediately,” the statement said. SAPA

These criminals are very ruthless and also don’t hesitate to kill any homeowners who get in their way besides poisoning their dogs, security experts warn.  Many dog-poisonings are never reported to police.

In the latest such incident, Pretoria businessman, 48-year-old businessman John Cooper had died in his bedroom and his wife assaulted on March 23, 2009  – after their Rottweiler guard dog was poisoned by a gang of five attackers.

Paramedics managed to save the dog in time, said police spokesman Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.  Msimango said Cooper, the owner of West End trailers, ran the trailer business from his house in Proclamation Hill. Just after 1am on Sunday, five armed men entered the house and confronted Cooper and his wife.

• “They shot the man,” said Msimango. “He died in the bedroom. The robbers then ordered the wife to give them money. April 18 2009, Johannesburg, South Africa.  The politically volatile Republic of the Congo – with a total land surface of 342,000 km2 – is offering 100,000 km2 (10-million hectares) —   i.e. almost 30% of the entire country, to South Africa’s white commercial farmers in a 99-year-leasehold scheme. The South African farmers are interested: they are now being forced to sell their family farms under the ANC-regime’s ongoing land-redistribution scheme and also are being hammered in a relentless campaign of violence-driven farm attacks in which almost 3,050 farmers and their kin have already been murdered, often in very cruel torture methods, since 1994.  In 1994, South Africa still had 60,000 white farmers and some 1,2-million black farm workers. By 2009, there are only an estimated 10,000 white farmers left. South Africa now has to import a vast quantity of staple food from abroad, whereas before 1994, the country was totally self-sufficient in local food production, and was also exporting vast quantities abroad…

Now, in the biggest land deal in recent African history, the Republic of Congo (also known as Congo-Brazzaville) has sent a formal delegation of five farmers to South Africa for talks with the South African farm union AgriSA with an open offer of 10-million hectares of farmland for South African farmers willing to migrate north to farm in the former French colony. Some 1,300 South African farmers have already shown an interest in transplanting themselves with their families.

Indeed the first of these South African farmers already are expected to settle in the country shortly after June.  Among other things, they will grow maize, soya, cotton and coffee. Poultry and cattle farms are also being planned.

Republic of Congo imports 99 percent of its food from France

Agri SA’s spokesman Theo de Jager said the government of the country —  also known as Congo Brazzaville — wanted to improve food security there most urgently.

• Until now, Congo – which like the bigger, neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo has been beset by political and ethnic tension in recent years – has had to import 99 percent of its food, mainly from France, he said. De Jager,  deputy president of AgriSA, represents the country’s largest of three agricultural unions. The South African farmers would be able to lease the land for free for 99 years, De Jager said.

Other enticements include a five-year “holiday” on corporate tax and the dismantling of taxes on the import of agricultural inputs, such as seeds, fertiliser and machines, De Jager said.

The farmers also would be allowed to take all their profits out of the country if they wished and, although the project is being billed a food security initiative, are under no obligation to sell their output on the domestic market.

South African commercial farmers are hammered by ANC-regime

It’s not unsurprising that there is so much interest to transplant their families, even to war-torn Congo — South Africa’s commercial farmers and their families are being hammered by arelentless farm-attack campaign in which nearly 3,050 farmers have already been murdered since 1994 — and tens of thousands of family members maimed, raped and traumatised. This violence-driven onslaught, which is accompanied by an incredible amount of cruelty, all forms part of the ANC regime’s land-reform process, according to the Transvaal Agricultural Union. They say that the ANC is hammering commercial farmers like this in order to bar the country’s most experienced and productive commercial farmers from their traditional smallholdings and farms.

Those farmers who are still clinging on despite this relentless campaign — the Transvaal Agricultural  warns — are being eroded financially by excessive taxation — all farms fall inside municipal boundaries now, and farmers are forced to pay excessive amounts of municipal taxes — from local municipal authorities, ruled by the ANC, and which offer no services whatsoever for this money in return. Often farmers find that they have to pave their own roads, keep their own water-reticulation system clean and in working order, and have to do their own policing, and still forced to pay huge municipal taxes, higher than those of most town dwellers. In the latest such upset, the Transvaal agricultural union warns that the ANC-regime is trying to rush through a new Act which would stop ratepayers from taking legal action against even the worst, most fraudulent and most poorly-performing municipal authority.  Their ability to fight back against underperforming, lax and fraudulent municipalities now would be severely eroded by the newly proposed Municpal Property Taxation Act, published in the government gazette on 11 March 2009, the TLU warned.

‘Ratepayers revolt rights’ would be impossible under new ANC-law’:

At the moment, nearly 90 local municipalities have been taken over and now being run by local ratepayers associations under a law in which the ratepayers can declare a dispute with poorly-performing municipal authorities, deposit their taxes into a seperate bank account from which they can issue their own tenders for municipal work.

Despite the importance of this Act,  the ANC has granted a mere 14 days in which to object, warns Ben Marais, President van TLU SA. He wrote a letter to Mrs V Mafoko, director-general of the Provincial and Local Government Department, objecting not only to the Act itself, but also to the far too short time period of a mere 14 days in which anyone could lodge any kind of objections to this Act.  Below is his letter:

Local Government; Municipal Property Rates Act; Amendment of the Act; Government Gazette, 11 March 2009, Notice 292 of 2009

With reference to the abovementioned, we clearly object to the notice period of 14 days provided to the public to comment on the content of the above proposed amendments of Act No 6 of 2004.

The proposed amendments have severe consequences to the general public and can not be properly consulted with all stakeholders. The Constitution of South Africa provides clear guidelines for public consultation, and it to be meaningful.

The time period of 14 days to respond, does not qualify for meaningful participation. We will pursue this issue separately and deem it as a part of a political strategy by government officials to amend regulations, prior to the national elections. The following are our provisional comments on the draft regulations. We reserve our right in terms of the Constitution of South Africa to submit further comments, due to the limited period provide for comment.

1. The amendment is in total rejected. The Municipal Systems Act (Act 32 of 2000) and The Municipal Finance Management Act (Act 56 of 2003) provides distinct and clear guidelines for Municipal Councilors and Municipal Officials, to exercise their duty.

2. The proposed amendment is purely to address the lack of political will to remedy the basic cause of the lack of delivery of municipalities and to provide a tool for further collapsing of services. This also provides for the protection of incompetent Councilors and Municipal Officials.

3. All the items listed in the draft regulations, which qualifies for condonation by the MEC, have one common route cause namely the lack of political will and incompetence. Without addressing this, service will never be improved.

4. Approving the proposed regulations implies that poor performance is approved. All the items reflected, qualifying for condonation, have a direct impact on the service provided to citizens by the municipality. It will result in a situation of total chaos as an escape door will now be available if the requirements, as specified in the legislation, is not complied with.

5. At present, the inability for municipalities to perform in terms of prescribed legislation, are as result of the lack of competence. Due to affirmative action, competent persons were discharged and appointments their after been made on either political affiliation or based on race. No attention was given to the retention of skills.

6. The MEC is a political appointment, similarly the Municipal Councilors. Permitting the MEC to condone the action of fellow politicians when they are not performing is a practice which can never be approved in a modern society.

7. Permitting condonation of poor service delivery provides also condonation of the wasteful expenditure of tax payer’s money.

8. The current problem experienced at municipal level can only be addressed if the regulation made provision for the withholding of monthly remuneration of the payment to Councilors, if performance is not on standard. Condonation of poor performance enhances the current situation.

9. The proposed regulations(12(1), (2 ) and (3) all lacks clear criteria to be considered and are all subjective. In the case of a dispute, it will be impossible to make judgment on the correctness of a decision. The condonation, as reflected can only be applied if clear, measurable and quantifiable criteria are available.

10. With specific reference to proposed regulation 12(2), it reflects the arguments as indicated above. This regulation condones mismanagement of a system due to the lack of provisional planning and control. The relevant legislation clearly spells out the requirements to be met, if not achieved, it is as a result of negligence.

This organization, in total rejects the proposed amendments, as indicated above. Approving the draft regulations makes the current legislation a mockery. Yours truly B MARAIS  PRESIDENT TAU SA

Unique South African academy trains continent’s next leaders

By Adriana Stuijt. A driven educator from Ghana has just enrolled the first 97 students from 29 African countries at the African Leadership Academy in South Africa. Fred Swaniker ‘s one goal is to create an interlinked network of 6,000 English-speaking, African leaders who would lead the continent’s socio-economic revival.

Swaniker, left, launched his academy with a $720,000 loan from the state-funded Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa last year — and lots of international donor goodwill, which he keeps constantly interested with a clever international fund raising campaign. Donors can even pay for one $25 brick to help the Academy grow…

Afrikaner students welcome…

We admit students based on their academic merit, leadership and entrepreneurship qualities and not based on their race or any cultural designation.’

Developing the next generation of African leaders

This unique Academy’s first batch of 97 students from 29 African countries — 53 men, 44 women — have already been enrolled in its two-year academic programme since September, and doing very well, Swaniker reports. Moreover, there’s already 2,500 applications from 40 countries awaiting approval for the next intake this September. The interest for his concept is huge. see The language of education is English. Most are bursary students on scholarships funded by individuals, corporations and financial institutions.

“The greatest need we have in Africa is better leadership if we are to achieve our full potential,” Ghana-born academy CEO Swaniker was quoted as saying.

• Education is in this affable man’s blood: at the tender age of 18 years, he was already handed the leadership of his first school by his grandmother in Ghana… And he’s also managed to link his quest to create an interlinked network of top-educated, highly motivated African leaders, to his natural entrepreneurial flair. The Stanford University educated Swaniker has lived in many countries in Africa. he says.

He is driven by just one lifetime goal:  over the next fifty years, he wants to train 6,000 leaders in all segments of African society. He believes that with this leadership network, the African continent will pull itself out of its present socio-economic and poor leadership predicament.

Africa has to grow leaders:
“The Academy gives them a world-class academic education, training in entrepreneurship, exposure to mentors and role models, and it provides a framework that will enable them to work in an ethical environment,’ he says.

African Leadership Academy in Honeydew, South Africa: with plans to create a network of 6,000 English-speaking, top leaders all across Africa, they have also enrolled one Afrikaner in the first batch of students – and said Afrikaners are very welcome to study there.

“We have to grow leaders,” said Swaniker. “That is where the idea came about of establishing an institution with the explicit objective of developing our next generation of future leaders. “The greatest need we have in Africa is better leadership if we are to achieve our full potential.”

African culture and customs…
Students are studying an A-Level curriculum with subjects including African history, literature, geography and languages in order to develop an appreciation of Africa’s culture and customs. Corporate sponsors have come on board and so most of the students – from all over Africa – are studying on scholarships and boarding at the school, situated in Honeydew, a suburb of Randburg, north of Johannesburg in South Africa.  His spokeswoman Nicola Hopwood said that as part of their A-level curriculum they also teach Science subjects in Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

“We do not offer Police Forensics or Agriculture as individual subjects but they may be covered as part of one of the other Science subject.  Both subjects may also be covered to some degree as part of our Guest Speaker and Expert-in-Residence Series in which leaders in various industries share their experience and expertise with the students.’

To get their enrolments going, the Academy had to launch a dedicated international quest for exceptional youngsters throughout the continent:

• “We have a team of people based in different parts of Africa who go out and scout for talent. They go to villages and schools where they make presentations exposing people to their search for exceptional youngsters,” said Swaniker. “We received a lot of applications through a mailing that we did to the headmasters of 1,600 schools in Africa. We asked them to nominate their top 4 students – those that they believe have the potential to change Africa.

“We also received applications through our partnerships with various organisations and non-governmental organisations who work with youth in townships and refugee camps. For the first intake we received 1,700 applications from 36 countries – only these 97 were successful.”

For their fothcoming September 2009 intake, the Academy has already received 2,500 applications from 40 countries — but they can only accommodate 100 of these applications.

Personalised education
“At ALA we have made a conscious decision not to grow our admittance levels. We want to keep the classes small,” the CEO says. “The current student/teacher ratio is 5 to 1. Every student gets a mentor. We want to tailor-make this education experience to individual student’s needs.”

• Swaniker explains this philosophy like this: “If we select the right people and invest tremendously in them, the impact that those people can have in transforming society, is much greater in the long term, than if we invested the same resources in a much broader group of people”.

Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls

Picture: Africans hunger for the best education for their children: this was seen very clearly when American multi-millionaire talk-show hostess Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa had a whopping 6,000 applicants. When the first group of pupils was elected, it was front page news countrywide.

Something very similar was also recently launched by American multimillionaire talk show hostess Oprah Winfrey, who has poured more than $40million in her Leadership Academy for Girls in Henley-on-Klip, also in South Africa. The basic idea behind these two ventures is to create networks of capable, well-informed and top-educated English-speaking leaders all across Africa. Oprah’s school is suffering some teething problems, but these will undoubtedly be resolved by this fiesty American woman in short order. see

Desmond Tutu, one very inspirational weekly guest…

Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu is one of the many inspirational weekly speakers at the African Leadership Academy in South Africa, which is training a network of African leaders to help lift the continent out of its socio-economic isolation.

“In pursuit of instilling a robust system of values in the students, Graca Machel, Desmond Tutu and the Gates Foundation to mention a few, have formed part of the weekly guest list at the academy,” said Swaniker.

“We try to bring speakers onto the campus with inspirational stories. People who can serve as role models or mentors. Bearing in mind the calibre of who we have already had, we are trying to maintain this level – but they do not necessary have to be a well-known name.”

Community projects
And every Wednesday on his campus, the students hit the trail: the day is edicated to community projects where students get involved with issues of personal interest in areas immediately surrounding the campus. Swaniker explains the purpose behind this initiative: “We want to develop their sense for action. Going out into communities and getting involved, they discover the needs and put together a team to meet and satisfy that need”.

Eighteen-year-old Winnie Imbuchi from Kenya for instance, is involved with a project atEmthonjeni Community Centre’s aftercare centre in the vicinity. “We are teaching drawing, sketching and painting art skills to the children with the aim of getting these young people to start their own businesses selling the products that they make,” she says.

Mathemathics and English for township youngsters:
Another group of students involved with the Emthonjeni after-care facility are trying to teach English and Maths to the younger children – who speak a variety of South African languages at home, such as Zulu, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho and Tswana.

Speaking about this project , seventeen-year-old Rumbidzai Gonoa from Zimbabwe told The Sowetan newspaper: “We want to incorporate learning English with having fun. We are trying to find innovative ways to make this pre-school educational experience fun, memorable and interesting through use of colourful posters. We have been teaching numbers and singing the alphabet whilst playing in the sandpit. We play games such as ’Simon says jump 10 times’. Whilst jumping the children count – one, two, three… and they do not realise that they are learning because they are having so much fun.”

Vegetable gardens in Zandspruit squatter camp

The African Leadership Academy’s students spend a lot of time on community projects in the vicinity of Randburg such as this one on the left, where they are creating vegetable gardens.

During their weekly community-service days each Wednesday, students have already launched several projects in the Zandspruit area – a sprawling former smallholdings area north of Randburg, where vegetables used to be raised in large quantities by kitchen-gardeners for the Johannesburg fresh-produce market.

However these days, Zandspruit has become one very large squatter camp for homeless, desperately poor people called “Cosmo City”, with many tens of thousands of shanties ad horrifying socio-economic, pollution and health problems. The students set up vegetable gardens to lessen the malnutrition problem amongst these residents. But there are also other plans beside feeding their bellies: they are also setting up a library — to feed their minds. see and also see
