It is especially social media that is buzzing with anger over the latest wave of farm attacks and murders.
In the most recent incident, a well-known farmer of Brits, Dries “Blue Bull,” Botha, is fighting for his life after suspects shot him five times. His wife Drieka managed to lock herself in the bathroom and call for help.
Nothing was stolen, and relatives say it appears that the suspects just came to kill Mr. Botha.
The other murder that the social media is talking about is that of a 74-year-old woman. Elsa Erasmus, who was murdered on her farm at Amalia. Her naked body was tied to a tree, indicating that she was humiliated and tortured before the suspects killed her. She was probably also raped.
Champion fighters against farm murders, like Lita Cross Fourie, asks if whether she will only be another statistic whereby nobody does anything about the incident. Erasmus will also be honored at the upgrade of the Witkruis Monument at Pietersburg on 1 and 2 September, and a cross will be planted in her memory. “All our farmers who will be with us on that date will know the cross is for Tannie Elsa Erasmus from Amalia.”
She goes on to say, it is similar to the other angry people on Facebook: “Well now, what’s next?
Was it just another murder? Add another statistic? Maybe they will be arrested, maybe not? Then a lot of f …. Live in jail! Strippers, food, tv, just what demons desire, they get it … And us …? Just another murder? The one has been solved, then we are waiting for the next attack, maybe another murder? ”
The attack on the Botha is the sixth in less than three months in North West. Four farmers, Elsa Erasmus, Patrick Itumeleng, B.C. Greyling and Hanno Steyn, were all shot dead in these attacks. Botha, Marlette Greyling, and Blackie van den Berg were shot and severely assaulted during the attacks.
