The recent ANC elective conference that sparked a fever pitch interest in most South Africans, has resulted in a somewhat mixed bag of results.
The major interest in the election of the new ANC president, produced the much expected and wished for outcome, which was, the election of Cyril Ramaphosa as the new ANC president.
The Rand also suprisingly reacted positively to such results.
However, that is where it all ends.
Before South Africans can naively and gullibly put their faith in Ramaphosa as, ” the knight in shinning armour “ running to rescue the damsel in distress that is South Africa, it must be remembered who Cyril Ramaphosa is.
Politically, Ramaphosa has always been a disciplined member of the ANC.
He is one individual that has abided by the rules and regulations of the ANC constitution.
Even when he was victimized and denied the opportunity that he so richly deserved, of being the next ANC president after Nelson Mandela, he took the disappointment in his stride and never said anything negative about the ANC.
The result of such conduct was a warm welcome by all and sundry within the ANC on his return from the business sector.
However, since his return and being in the position of both ANC and the country’s president, Ramaphosa has been as quite as a mouse.
His conduct and behaviour has been in all respect, similar to that of former brief president, Kgalema Motlantle.
We all know where Motlantle ended, in the political wilderness.
Ramaphosa by nature appears to be a “quite” person with a humble personality.
He doesn’t seem to possess the assertiveness of the likes of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki for instance.
He appears scared to stamp his authority even when given that space and opportunity through the authority of the position he occupies.
Ramaphosa is one of the architects of our country’s Constitution.
He knows that Constitution like he knows the back of his hand.
However it came as a suprise when in his maiden speech as the newly elected president of the ANC, he made the announcement that the ANC will be persuing the conference resolution of amending section 25 of the Constitution so that we now have a section within the Constitution that allows for expropriation of land without compensation.
He of all the people should be aware of the legal pitfalls that awaits the ANC at the Constitutional Court as both the civic organisations and some of the opposition political parties challenges the ANC in this regard.
This is one instance that proves his inability to stamp his authority where it matters most.
We should thank our lucky stars that the Northern High Court took a decisive judgement that compels him to act in both the establishment of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry into State Capture and the replacement of the NDPP, Shaun ” skapie “ Abrahams.
He (Ramaphosa) is not going to have it easy within both the ANC top 6 and the ANC NEC.
It needs also to be remembered that Ramaphosa has been part and parcel of the Zuma cabinet that has been ” quite “ as the State Capture drama unfolded.
When the Gupta family was given the latitude to literally run the country, control the SOE’s and siphon the country’s billions all the way to Dubai, HE REMAINED AS QUITE AS THE MOUSE THAT HE IS.
HOWEVER MIRACULOUSLY TODAY, WE ARE EXPECTED TO LOOK TOWARDS ONE OF THE ROTTEN POTATOES AS THE COUNTRY’S SAVIOUR.
HOW NAIVE AND GULLIBLE CAN WE REALLY BE SOUTH AFRICANS !!!!!!
