Significant damage has been caused in the Mafube local municipality, which includes Frankfort, Villiers, Cornelia, and Tweeling.
The chaos currently prevailing in the region, and the ANC government should be held responsible for all damages, according to Jan Oost, FF Plus councilor in Mafube.
According to Mr. Oost, Villiers and Qalabotjha are currently without water due to workers who occupy and sabotage the water plant. He imposed a criminal charge against the relevant group of protesters.
“The ANC government has lost control and their inability to manage the municipality to maintain law and order violates Mafube’s citizens’ right to essential services.”
“The FF Plus considers it unacceptable for residents to pay for services, such as garbage disposal, while they have not received these services for the past two months. The FF Plus will submit a complaint to the Consumer Commission, and also demand that residents receive retroactive discounts on their municipal tariffs.”
“Despite the fact that Mafube has been placed under provincial administration since May 2017, the crisis in which this municipality has worsened is only aggravated itself. Municipal officials have not yet received their salaries for June, and consequently, protests and sabotage take place, while no service delivery takes place.”
During the past week, protesters burned the power station and property in Cornelia, tires and other objects were also burned and streets littered in Frankfort and Villiers.
