Statistics on farm attacks a shock

In March 51 attacks were recorded, where six people were killed.

The Transvaal Agricultural Union (TAU) recently released alarming statistics highlight the continuing incidents of attacks on the country’s food producers on their farms.

The figures show attacks that occurred nationally since the beginning of the year and meet criteria used by the police to define farm attacks. According to the figures reported from 1 January to 4 April already 123 attacks that coincided with 26 murders.

In March 51 attacks recorded where six people were killed. Each of the cases has been confirmed by TAU.

Mr. Henry Geldenhuys, deputy president of TAU SA and National Chairman Security TAU SA, said not only are the figures alarming and shocking, but the situation is extremely worrying. “It is high time that the government intervene and actually do something to stop the senseless killing of the country’s food producers.

It is not only farmers, or farm owners than if you want to put it that way, which is  killed, but criminals also target their workers. Together they form a team and together they produce food for the nation. The irony is that even the attackers, killers and government officials who sit and do nothing to reverse the situation, dependent on food produced on farms.

“The comment made by the new Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula, police WILL ANSWER FIRE WITH FIRe and his determination to crack down on crime in the country is commendable, but we would ask that the police and the farming community will support each other and farm attackers will be answered with fire. Surely it is to the mutual benefit of safety and food security, “he said. Mr. Geldenhuys once again appealed to the farming community to integrate into existing security structures and farm watch organizations.
